Wow 2 entries in one week! Ang dami kong oras ah! Just want to share this quote I found, as usual, on one of my internet browsings. This is from a photographer by the name of Lyle Owerko, the lens owner who captured fantastic photos of one of the most significant events of our time, the 9/11 tragedy. When everyone was running away from the WTC, he was running towards it notwithstanding the danger he was getting himself into. Now that's going against the flow! Haha. Surprisingly there is this one girl who recently commented on an entry I posted 4 years ago. Haha. Wala lang. Some of them random hoppers probably.

O Internet! Blessed be the day mankind invented and mass-marketed you! Recently I've been site jumping all over the www. It's amazing how much information really is available to everyone, even to the swivel-chair-desktop-potato population which includes myself. A glass of iced tea, a round of favourite tunes playing on the background plus heaps of eye energy and I'm good to go. Well this is actually a staple-slash-favorite. It's been in my bookmarks folder since my mom canceled our magazine subscription. If only to browse through amazing photos or read about something entirely mundane that just excites one's curiosity, NatGeo would replace volumes upon volumes and cds upon cds of encyclopedias. An economic alternative for its delivered printed counterpart.

Tilt-shift photography is a creative and unique type of photography in which the camera is manipulated so that a life-sized location or subject looks like a miniature-scale model.
Only you need a tilt-shift lens to do this, I'm not sure if this effect could also be achieved using an ordinary lens. All you need anyway is a shallow depth of field.. Hmm I guess not.

Ha the frailty of friendster--one time you know them, the other you don't. I remember my friend Jireh telling me about how everyone in the world's connected in six degrees and how sites like friendster make us closer. But are we really? After reading this message, I tried very hard to recall who Euni was and what part she took in my life. She was a classmate, that's for sure, but when? What subject? Were we so close back then that we added each other up on friendster? This message made me realize how ironic trying to "expand one's network" is. At the end of the day, probably only a quarter, or even less, of the people included in your list matter--heck, the one dearest to you's probably not even included. Sigh, friend sites--after a few years, all you really have besides web links are lost memories. Somewhere in the world, a person called Euni is receiving a scrapbook for her birthday with her friends' letters on them filled with hopes and love. For her, I wish for nothing less. One thing's for certain, if tomorrow we bump into each other, I probably won't even talk to her.

When was the last time I read a non-arki book? Heck. Can't remember. A new book, that is--favorites don't count [I re-read Gaiman's Coraline last week. I allowed myself to be re-haunted by the skittering sounds of the other mother's right hand. Awwwoooh! Haha, love that book. There's gonna be a film release in 2009 and the adorable Dakota Fanning's gonna play lead role. Yey exciting!]. Back when I wasn't enrolled in Architecture, I used to read one book per week--per weeeeeek! Sigh. I haven't even read the last Potter book. That's how pathetic I've become.

The Arki Admin Building was "vandalized" yesterday, August 2 ironically in front of the exceptionally awake and alert UP Diliman Police Station. A very orchestrated plan it was indeed as there are reports that it was done not only in Arki but in other buildings as well in time for the UPCAT. While fellow future architects, and the whole UP community probably, is fretting about how to clean up the "stupidity" these "noneducated culprits" wrote on our beloved cheese of a building, I just hope we go beyond thinking how to repair the damages and focus on the deeper intention on why these people did what they did. It's probably wrong to sympathize with the "vandals", but how can I not when I know that the system is indeed flawed and with its 1000-peso-per-unit scheme is defeating its purpose of being a University for the People. Bawal ang mahirap dito. These four words can't be more honest as the statistics are in saying that education in UP is no longer accessible to everyone except for the priviledged few. As if ignorance is not already abundant in our country. All I know is that educated people is equal to educated voters, and that in itself is a lot. So guys before I veer farther, the graffitti made on our buildings was yes, not an art, but a message--try putting on the shoes of the supposed students who can't be in UP because they can't afford it. At least try to imagine the frustration of their loving parents whose dreams for their children are crushed by the oppressive system. Madaling linisin yung nakasulat sa pader. May mas malaking problema kaysa sa paglilinis ng building. After those writings are erased and forgotten, the lives of the people concerned may still be unchanged. Let's channel our anger towards the real evils not to the persons who like us, are victims of the same unfairness that forces them to act, however "irrationally", as they do.

With snot literally dripping off my nose, I write this entry as a response to, well nothing really. A lot of happenings happening recently which deserve some jotting down and gloating over. I've been recently constituted as head of our college's registration corps and I've been well-too-busy ever since--not because there's a lot of registration-assistant duties to do but because I think finally that Leo-the-lion in me is finally coming back and kicking in--hard. I am truly excited about it though in spite of the haggard-ness of it all. I find myself enjoying the running-arounds and fretting-abouts. Hopefully I could sustain it--this workaholic streak that's silently blossoming within. Shall I nip the bud now while I can? Haha. Architects are said to be perfectionists to the point of becoming enslaved with their passions. Notable architects that is. That's probably the reason why some of them are bald, with eyes drooping and sagging like moment curves. Last summer after finishing that construction plate of mine, I told myself that I would finish this course just for the heck of it. Graduate then go. Aim for another course, another profession. For the past two years I was seriously rethinking it all. This last April's 40 sheets were equal to almost 40 days of restlessness. 40 days and 40 nights of tempest. I was seriously considering photography, an interest that's been burbling almost to overflow point. Travelling places with a high-definition camera and working for the National Geographic, if lucky, wasn't such a bad idea. It excited me to tingles. But then when this semester opened, there's Sir Nic and Sir Dytoc lecturing about architecture-engineering feats and sustainability and how architects have great power in reshaping the world. Saving the world means saving ourselves, one of them said. And then suddenly this whole deal about being an architect took a sharp turn. Now the words create and design have deeper meanings attached to them. Now saving the Earth, an effort I've been wanting to pursue for some time now, has another dimension. Walking instead of riding is one thing--a small step. Being a responsible architect is another--a giant leap. With that said, truly now I want to be an architect more than ever.

Remind me again why I'm browsing over photos of beautiful women and not minding the more important issues such as rice shortage and electricity price hikes. Hay.. There had been a lot going on this summer. Renovations, registrations and what-nots. Not to mention, heart matters that need not grace this happy-mooded blog [nga ba?]. It's ironic that while I torture myself with such nonsense, I find myself donning my drafting table and finding refuge from my still-unfinished construction plate. God really has ways of keeping one sane and pre-occupied.

Welcome to the family Alexis the dog. At first we were hesitant about adopting her but once she began wagging her tail while jumping around like mad, ayun--Sige, go na! Right now, we're just enjoying her puppy enthusiasm. I wonder if that will change once she begins having her period. Shet pano kaya yun? The baby is now a lady. Yeee..

How long has it been since I posted something about books? Honestly I haven't bought a new one and I'm just re-reading my old stocks--most of which are my all-time favorites. Right now, the girly side that I thought I never had has finally revealed itself to me and to my surprise, I find myself buying blouses instead of reads. Hmmm. Para i-celebrate ang pangyayaring ito, ako'y muling nagbabasa ng Frankenstein ni Mary Shelley. I hope my "monster" would not hate me in the end the way Victor's did.

One-Way

For those who are using the save-the-environment argument on the One-Way traffic issue in the UP Diliman oval, eto lang ang masasabi ko sa inyo:

I've been an advocate of the Save-the-Earth movement since I was a college sophomore in UP and since then, in my 5 years in the university [ouch] I have never ridden an ikot/toki jeep. And I'm talking about walking long distances here, as in from arki to new NIP or to SC or even to Philcoa [although hindi naman ito saklaw ng ikot/toki routes] and back. Totoo. In those three sems that I took Math, the two summers that I had Physics, and the countless times that I had to go to the shopping center, never did I take public transport to get to those destinations. At wala rin naman akong kotse, mind you. Lakad lang talaga lage. Payong lang at panyo na pamahid pawis [saka matibay na antiperspirant, hehe], solve na. O sige, hindi naman sobrang never, siguro once or twice. But still--twice in three years?! C'mon. What I'm saying is that if you genuinely care for the environment, you don't just talk the talk, you walk the walk, literally. If you think pollution is uncool then you should either commute, that way we lessen the gas consumption, or gawin mong electricity-powered yung engine ng kotse mo. Or in the case of UP, maglakad ka, yun yun! Pucha, wag mong sisihin ang mga jeepney drivers sa UP! Plus, it's quite obvious that there are more private vehicles in the university than there are jeeps. So if someone has to be blamed for the "pollution" then it has to be the car-driving populace na for all we know ay ang dala lang naman ay wallet at cellphone--at shet, ballpen. Amp talaga. Tumigil kayo!

Hay.. update lang on that plate I mentioned last time--nope, not yet done. Monday's the target. Hopefully I'll be able to muster all the drawing strength that's left in me to again spend long hours in front of the drafting table til I'm exhausted for good [or at least until the plate's done]. While procrastinating recently, I remembered I asked God in one of my prayers that He help me treat my chronic laziness, and I realized that all this work is a challenge and a chance to do just that. Not only did I feel defeated after those few minutes of pondering, I also felt sorry that I am relentlessly failing Him--I've only myself to blame that I am falling short of what is asked of me.

It's our batch's 5th year graduation anniversary and I thought it only fitting that I answer this survey that has been in circulation for the past few weeks:

1. Batch? 2003. Ang pinakamasayang batch sa buong history ng quesci.
2. Ilan ang sections sa batch mo? Nung una 8, tapos nakulangan siguro sa classroom [public school e], ginawa nalang 7.
3. Anung curriculum sinusunod niyo? Regional science high curriculum! oh yeah. Only I think we didn't quite live up to that title--puro kalokohan kase. hehehe

Part II. Personal.
1. Sino favorite principal mo? Explain. Wala! Puro sila walang kwenta! Haha.

2. Eh, subject & teacher? favorite. Hmm.. English had always been my favorite subject although hindi rin naman ako masyado nag-excel. Si Ma'am Tranqs siguro. Hehe. But there were other brilliant teachers during my time including Ma'am Paningbatan [General Sci], Sir Chua [Math1], Ma'am Gapas [English1], Sir Sangel [Filipino], and Ma'am Capinpin [AP2].

3. Alam mo ba lahat ng facilities sa Quesci? Ano pinakagusto mo?
Yung gazebo! Saka yung bleachers. If they could be counted as "facility". Mga hang-out places namin ng mga friends pagkatapos ng klase. Maraming mga rebelasyon ang naganap diyan.

4. Madalas ka ba sa Soccerfield? Ano ginagawa mo dun?Nung second year, agawan base. Nung 4th year, CAT. I remember Rap and I used to walk around the field dahil wala lang talaga kami magawa. Miss you rap!

5. Ano ang tawag mo sa mga benches malapit sa mathay ii building? para san yun? yun yung bleachers tange! hmm... wala. Hang out place.

6. Favorite food sa canteen? Hmm.. lugaw? haha mura eh! Saka ang all-time favorite ng lahat na hindi naman actually exclusive sa canteen: ang Nissin's Yakisoba. Uhm uhm uhm. Marami-rami din akong naitapong tinidor dahil dito. Nyahaha

7. Ano ang tamang spelling? Cheats? Chits? Cheets? Chitz? Siguro cheats kase paraan ito ng panggugulang nila Sir Semana at ang buong sangka-coop-an dahil hindi ka pa nakakabili ay nasa kanila na ang pera mo. Malas mo pa pag nawala mo yun. Hanggang ngayon nga may ten pesos worth of cheats pa ko eh. Hehe remembrance.

8. Sinusunod mo ba yung Biodegradable/Non Biodegradable trash bins?
Ows meron ba nun sa quesci?? Hindi ko na maalala. Basta yung tinidor sa canteen naisasama't naitatapon ko minsan pag wala ako sa sarili or pag trip ko lang, bwahaha.

9. Bumoboto ka ba sa SCB/SSG elections? Sino favorite President mo?
Oo naman! Si kate, although hindi yata sya nanalo nun.

10. Tumatambay ka sa fire exit? Sino madalas kasama mo dun?
Oo. Lalo na nung third year, katabi yun ng classroom namen. E di friends.

11. Ano ang mga Lab sa school? Nagamit mo ba lahat?
Computer, Bio, Chem, Physics, Drafting, Speech, meron din yatang English lab. Yung drafting nakiusi lang ako pero hindi ko nagamit per se dahil never naman ako nag-drafting elective [the irony!].

12. Scientian.Com! familiar? ano username mo? Naks may ganun? Iche-check ko yan!

13. eh #quesci? pumupunta ka ba dito? hinde. As in nebuhrrrr.

14. Friendly ka ba sa ibang batch? Nung nasa quesci ako, hinde. Except lang dun sa mga ka-service. Other than them, wala. Chevers.

15. Anung batch paborito mo? bawal batch mo! Uhm... ang hirap... nosebleed...

16. Umaattend ka ba sa night events ng school? anu ano mga na-attenan mo? Nung 4th year lang ako nakasulit ng events--disco, battle of the bands, prom..

17. Ilang beses ka nagstargazing? Ok ba? stargazing.. uhm.. nung retreat yata medyo nakagaze ako ng onte..

18. May mga club ka ba? Active member? nyek.. english club. tumutulong naman ako sa booth pag fair.

19. Umattend ka ba ng fieldtrip? San kayo nagpunta? Oo.. pero di ko na maalala kung saan eh.

20. Dala mo ba family mo every Family Day? Nung una oo. Nung lumaki na ko hindi na.

21. GC? Sobrang hinde. Ang motto lang naman namen ay hindi gc pero hindi rin pabaya. So kebs lang basta on the right track..

22. Crammer? jusko, ssssssuuuuuuppppeeeeeeehhhhrrrrr!!!!

23. Nagccut ka ba ng classes? hinde. mabait ako eh.

24. Alam mo ba ang ibig sbhn ng Model Boy/Girl at A1 Boy/Girl? leche! bwiset talaga yang mga ganyang awards!

25. Nagprom ka na ba? San kayo nagprom? 3rd year sa isang sports complex, 4th year sa crossroads.

26. Eh gradball? Manila Hotel!! Hebigat!

27. Nakatulog ka na ba sa class? Hindi pa naman ata. Nung college lang nauso sakin yang tulog-tulog sa klase.

28. Eating in class? Always! Lalo na sa math time nung second year.. sino nga ba yung teacher na yun...

29. Nagttext habang nagddiscuss yung teacher? hinde. yung mga katext ko dapat kaklase ko rin eh so no need.

30. Memorize mo ang school hymn? Oh yes naman, kelangan eh. saka kung andun ka ba naman ng apat na taon, hindi mo ba naman mamememorize yun??

31. Ano yung tawag sa lower part ng flag pole? semento. haha.

32. Sino ang favorite cook mo? Cook? Si Ate beybeh! Ang baby na hindi naman baby! hahaha

33. Favorite guard? Wala. Bwiset sila, nagnanakaw pa minsan.. bad, bad..

34. Favorite janitor/janitress? Wala ren. Di ako inter-occupationally sociable.

35. Ok ba sayo na scientists pangalan ng sections? Hmm.. ok lang. E science high school nga kase.. pero ok din namang elements na lang. Saka bakit nga ba hindi pinoy yung mga scientists na kasale?? oh well..

36. Ano masasabi mo sa school fair? Nung panahon namin, ok naman ang fair, as in habulan at hihiga ka talaga sa aspalto para lang hindi ka ma-jailbooth. Umaatikabo at maaksyon ang fair namin!

37. Favorite event/booth sa school fair? ahm.. disco?? although once lang ako umattend.

38. Full support ka ba sa school plays? ano favorite mo? Dun sa Wit kase kasama ako sa production staff.

39. Sino crush mo sa school? Pucha.. e di si Kessmar! Haha. Bwiset. [o yan sinabi ko talaga a. Chevers!]

40. May friends ka ba sa alumni? Oo, eh alumni naman na lahat sa batch ko e. nyek.

Oo. Haha. Kumanta ng Pambansang Awit nung 1st year at School Hymn nung third year yata.
